Reopening of Punta Huete Airport, known as "Panchito" in Nicaragua
The International Airport Administration Company has plans to rehabilitate Punta Huete Airport, known as “Panchito”, located about 50 kilometers northeast of Managua, so to develop an Air Cargo Facility and develop a facility for maintenance, repair and rebuilding of aircrafts (MRO).
The “Panchito” airport has a concrete runway of 3.200 meters long and 60 meters wide, with a parallel taxiway and several concrete platforms; as well as a VOR that was recently installed.
Studies have shown that there is a demand for air cargo handling in Managua, and due to the existing infrastructure in “Panchito” airport, it has been considered as the ideal location for the project. However, investments are required to install the needed conditions for that operation, as well as to improve the access roads to the airport.
Part of the “Panchito” airport development plan is to install an MRO Center. The project would take advantage of the competitive labor costs that Nicaragua offers as well as the location of the country, which allows quick and easy access to the main markets/regions of the world.
