Electricity Generation Infrastructure in El Salvador

The Salvadorian Government, through the Agency of Exports and Investment Promotion of El Salvador (PROESA, for its initials in Spanish), is currently promoting an ambitious project of infrastructure for the generation of electricity, through the regasification of liquefied natural gas. Within the objectives of this project is the generation of 525 MW destined to the electric national market and the Mesoamerican market, which covers South Mexico up to Panama and Colombia. The construction of the plant for generating energy will be located next to the newly opened “Puerto La Unión”.

The project estimated cost is US$950 million (through a public-private partnership framework).
